Introducing The Mourne Heather Collection
Embrace the rugged foliage of the dramatic Mourne Mountains with our new Mourne Heather collection, a range of textiles that celebrates the vibrancy of Northern Ireland’s breathtaking landscape and promotes biodiversity.
Brought to life by Ulster Weavers designer Helena, this range takes its inspiration from the beautiful scenery and flora of the Mournes. Throughout each piece in the collection, the colours and textures of upland vegetation blend to form a seamless pattern of alpine and heathland flora, invoking a rustic charm.
A palette of soft lilacs, purples and greens has been paired with cream and brown notes, to bring to life the vibrant tones of the shrubs, heathers, ferns and grasses found on the mountainside.
The collection encapsulates the richness of the mountains and transports us to rural County Down.
The Mourne Mountains hold a special place in textile designer Helena’s heart.
In her spare time, she enjoys walking and hiking through the Mournes, and has always taken inspiration from local landscapes and nature.
Her design process started on the mountainside, where she collected foliage and took photographs for reference, before sketching her findings to create the final, expressive, hand-drawn design. She said:
“Sketches were made of the various foliage and then I painted with watercolours in a loose romantic style. The sketches and paintings were then collated to form a seamless repeat pattern. I wanted to let the pencil and pen marks show through, to keep the design rustic and reflect the charm and wilderness of the beautiful Mourne area.”
The beautiful Mourne Heather collection contains five items to add some rugged charm to your home. Choose from a cotton apron, tea towels, a gauntlet, oven gloves and a micro mitt, and celebrate the beauty of Northern Ireland’s flora in your kitchen.
